| General Information: | The town of Setúbal lies in the estuary of Sado River. Inside the port, plenty of traffic is expected (local yachts, fishing boats, ferries and ships). The marina lies on the west half of Comércio Dock, which also contains the ferries pier. |
| Entrance: | One should be very careful when entering the channel if not in good weather and on the flood. During strong ebb tides if southwesterlies are present, rollers will be formed in the channel. Frequently, occur periods of bad visibility and fogs. The entrance channel is well marked with buoys and beacons and its axis is defined by 2 leading lights (fishing harbour jetty an Azeda) on 040º. Stay within the channel, starting between beacon nº2 and buoy nº1, as there are shoals on either side. Once between João Farto buoy (west cardinal) and Forte Albarquel, either head 060º straight to the marina (across ship's anchorage) or, preferably, skirt the north shore offing 200m. During ebb and flood, there will be crosscurrents at the entrance that might reach 3-4Kt in springs. Care should be taken when entering the dock for the ferries are in and out continuously. |
