| General Information: | The port of Leixões is located 2,5M northern of the mouth of the Douro River between the villages Leça da Palmeira and Matosinhos. The best references are Leça lighthouse and the oil refinery chimneys. The marina is located in the northwest corner of the dock. One should beware of ships at anchorage outside the port, especially during fog, as well as from fishing trawlers that use to leave the harbour, heading out to sea, early in the evening. |
| Entrance: | The entrance of the port faces southeast and is about 50m wide. The light at the end of the west breakwater may be difficult to identify against shore lights. A good clearance should be given to the end of the west breakwater. During westerly gales, heavy swell is to be expected by the entrance. Approaching from south, mark Leça light on 350º until the entrance defined by the spur of the west breakwater (Fl.R) and the south breakwater (Fl.G.). head then, 015º towards the marina. |
