The 200m wide entrance between the islands Cabo de Santa Maria and Culatra, is defined by two lit breakwaters heading SSW. A current of up to 3Kn may set along the sandy coast. The 10m line runs about 1M offshore. The major reference is Cabo de Santa Maria light. This dock it is completed with local craft and also for the Club´s members. |
| Entrance: | The approach to the bar should start 0,7M south of the entrance, bearing the west breakwater light on 350º. Once near the entrance turn to starboard and keep on the leading line (Cabo de Santa Maria Barra Nova lights) bearing 021º. The set of 3 red buoys should be left on the port hand and lead to the division of the channel. Watch for the set and favour the east side of this track. The west channel leads to Faro; the channel is buoyed. The currents, flood and ebb, are strong; the ebb at springs reaches 5- 8Kt. Enter at half flood favouring the outside of the bends and during daylight. To access Doca de Recreio de Faro, run by the Ginásio Clube Naval, limited by 2,5m draught at HW, it's necessary to pass under the railway bridge (2m air draught at HW) or stay outside. This dock is completed with local boat craft. |
