| General Information: | Approaching from the west, the line of the lights at the ends of the breakwaters bears 097º. Approaching from the east, Ponta do Altar may hide behind the entrance of the harbour. Inside the breakwaters, the leading line formed by the two lights at Ferragudo bears 021º, which leaves buoy nº2 on port hand. Once this buoy is abeam, head to buoy nº4. The entrance of the marina will be approximately half way on port hand, and is formed by two lights moles. The channel has a depth of 7m, at least. Strong tidal streams run near the entrance, principally during ebb. |
| Entrance: | The coast is formed by sandy beaches with hills or cliffs behind. The main marks in the area are Ponta da Piedade in the west and Ponta de Alfanzina in the east. Strong breezes occur during the Summer, from the beginning of the afternoon until sunset, picking from SW moving through W to WNW or NW. The entrance of River Arade, marked by Ponta do Altar, east of Praia da Rocha, is protected by two breakwaters 250m wide. The town is located in the west side of the river, 2 miles from the harbour mouth. Opposite to the marina, on the east side of the estuary, lies the village of Ferragude. |
